University of Wisconsin athletic director Barry Alvarez has been awarded the Under Armour Athletic Director of the Year, announced by the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA).Alvarez joins a distinguished list of other FBS Athletic Directors honored this week: Whit Babcock of Virginia Tech, Joe Castiglione of Oklahoma and Kirby Hocutt of Texas Tech.After years of limited Wisconsin success that saw the losses pile up in the 1980’s, former athletic director Pat Richter called upon the Notre Dame defensive coordinator. In each of those seasons, the Badger football team appeared in a bowl game and the Badger basketball team appeared in the NCAA Tournament.
