first_imgPanaji, Jun 6 (PTI) Goa tourism department has asked its officials to work on a “foolproof” legislation which will give more teeth to act against illegalities on the beaches.Tourism Minister Manohar Ajgaonkar today held a high level meeting in the capital city to discuss the legislation that will help the department crackdown on unauthorised and illegal activities along the beaches and other tourist places.”The minister has asked the officials to be more accountable towards their duties and ensure that the illegalities in the tourism belt are eradicated,” a state tourism department spokesman said.He said the officers have been asked to be on their toes to pre-empt unauthorise activities from taking place.A proper check would be maintained on tourism industry stakeholders including shack owners,water sports operators and vendors besides others.”During the meeting, the minister proposed to have a joint action committee comprising officials from departmentof tourism, police, captain ofports and others to studyand framethe necessary guidelines needed to clampdown on nuisanceon beach stretches along the coastline,” the spokesman said.The minister was informed that during the month of May till date, a total of 594 cases were bookedby theGoa Police of unauthorised tourism activities along the beachbelt as against 484 reported between January to April 2017.
